SYCF raising money in South Yorkshire for South Yorkshire

Posted by Bianca

South Yorkshire Community Foundation (SYCF) is busy signing up local businesses and organisations to get involved in an event on Friday 31 July 2009 to raise money for local causes and celebrate all things Yorkshire.

The day, taking place the day before Yorkshire Day, aims to raise money through donations of £2 to help worthy projects in South Yorkshire. This is a great opportunity for groups who have benefited from funding to be able to give a little something back.

There couldn’t be a better time for local people to support local causes, because every £1 raised will be matched by a £1 from the Government, who want to encourage local people to support local community and voluntary groups. Money raised in Sheffield stays in Sheffield; the same is true for Rotherham, Doncaster and Barnsley.

Paul Benington from SYCF says ‘The idea is to have a laugh at ourselves and prove that Yorkshire Folk are the most generous in the country rather than the tightwads some people think we are’.

SYCF want you to show the true wit our folk possess by coming to work dressed as a stereotypical Yorkshire Person. You could don the flat cap and put the whippet on its lead, hit the high notes as a brass band member or even go for the Full Monty (company policy permitting)!

If dressing up is too much trouble you can still support the day by coming
to work in your casual clothes. Alternatively you could come to work in the colours of your favourite sporting team.

With a bit of Yorkshire Magic SYCF can turn a £2 donation into more than a £5, through Gift Aid and match funding.

Please encourage the organisation you work for to support the day and tell your friends and family about it.

The local media is very interested in Yorkshire Day and SYCF are keen to collect any photos you take on the day, so it can used in future publicity.

For more information about how your organisation can get involved or to let SYCF know you are planning to take part email or call 0114 242 4857.
